Consultation Arrangements

The following comprises extracts from a covering letter to the proposals, from the Chair of the Expert Committee, Prof. Genevra Richardson.

I am writing now enclosing the report containing our draft proposals. These are our preliminary findings following the many written responses to our Key Themes document and our discussions with those in the field.

This second consultation has two aims. First, we wish to assess the practicability of our proposals. Secondly there are some more general issues on which we should appreciate your comments. Unfortunately we are working to a tight timetable and we therefore need your responses by 7 May 1999.

The report has an executive summary and a table of contents. It is structured in such a way as to take you through the scheme that we are proposing. The specific areas on which comments would be most welcome are highlighted in the text throughout. I should be most grateful for any comments you have on the report and scheme as a whole including those aspects of which you approve.

Recipients will notice that Appendix 1 [not reproduced at this Web site] contains a list of many of the organisations whom we have consulted. Following this current consultation we shall be drawing together a final report for presentation to Ministers at the Department of Health in July and I would like to ask individuals whether they would permit us to add their names to Appendix 1 for the final report. Please let me know with your response to the report.

I am most grateful for your assistance. Please send your response to the secretariat by Friday 7 May 1999. Their address is:
